HISTORY OF THE OLD STONE SCHOOL
and THE HILLSBORO COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

Built in 1874, the original stone section housed Locust Grove Academy, the area's first public school. In the 1920s, a brick addition provided a large auditorium and theatre space (footlights, et al). Loudoun County closed the school in the 1970s and slated the building for demolition. It was then that a group of civic-minded neighbors and former students rallied to rent the building from the county in order to restore and maintain the facility as a community center.

The Hillsboro Community Association was pleased to restore the building to its former glory and open it as a gathering place as well as a much-needed rental property for weddings, reunions, etc.

The HCA's continued maintenance of the historic property is supported by fund-raising events which include a fall Harvest Festival, September Tag Sale, and an Old Homes Christmas Tour and Crafts Fair.

The HCA's thank you gift to the community is its annual Independence Day Celebration, where they're pleased to provide small town charm alongside big city fireworks.

Donations are welcome.
